Fun atmosphere, easy to meet other travelers, kept relatively clean.
It’s been a while since my last time in a hostel and all I can say is that, staying here, I could remember why I love so much to be in these kind of place. It’s clean, organized and very well located. And everyone who works there are nice and heIpfull. I definitely recommend.
Since I was visiting for Fierte Montréal (Montreal Pride), the location was PERFECT! A hop and skip from all the Pride activities happening on Rue St. Catherine. It’s right by the Beaudry Metro stop. Front desk guy was very sweet (young guy with glasses). Depending on which room you book, you’ll probably get a bathroom but majority won’t, the showers and bathrooms are all the way in the creepy basement, which needs repairs and smells bad at times. If you’re on the top floors, you’ll have to walk all the way down to the basement. Breakfast was okay, I don’t think anything was fresh, it looks like it all came from a can. They needs better and clearer check in system and bed system. Beds are not assigned, you just know what your room is and can take whichever bed you want in the room when you go in that’s not taken yet. This caused problems for me, since after someone checked out from the room, the front desk guy (mid age guy) kept checking to see who I was and where my bed was. Maybe assign beds instead of playing “Clue” every time someone from the room checks out. Aside from that, it was very nice to stay in. I hope they fix the bathroom situation and bed situation for next time.
Good things: Firstly, I’ll tell you that Alexandrie It’s a very big place with many common areas. What they differ most from other hostels, is the space they offer. Even the rooms have great spaces with shelves to put your things and a writing desk. Therefore, it’s a very comfortable place. Secondly, there are usually 3 refrigerators and plenty of space to put your food in boxes and the boxes on shelves. There’s not much space in the refrigerators, but this may depend on how full is the hostel and you can always find a space to put your food anyway. The breakfast is pretty simple but I loved it, you have 3 different kinds of breads (brown, white and a sweet one with raisins), peanut butter, maple syrup butter, jams, margarine, caramel, fruit salad (just the banana is really fresh the rest is from a can), orange juice (not fresh), coffee and cow milk. The hostel has ice skates you can use to go skating and bikes for the summer. The area where the place is located is great, there are many dance clubs, restaurants, grocery stores, and bars; also, it’s close to Saint Catherine and the metro station. There’s a park nearby where you can see many squirrels. Since it is situated in a gay village, the streets are colored with many gay flags.
Bad things: It is not as organized and cleaned as other hostels may be; moreover, the building is an old construction, so you may feel like it is dirtier than it actually is. The showers and toilets are far from some rooms, they are in the sub solo; thus, if you are in a room without toilets this might be uncomfortable.
All in all, in the beginning, you can get a little bit disappointed with the bad things, but u get used to how everything works and learn to enjoy more the great things this hostel has to offer.
I loved my experience there. People where kind, I could always find a space to study, there were many sofas and it was warm enough.
We are very happy for the time we stayed in the hostel, not just because Luc is a very nice and kind person but also because the location was perfect, the private room was amazing and all was very clean and organized. Looking forward to come again in the future. One suggestion is to correct the phone number on google, because I believe it’s a different one now.
